Healthy Lifestyle Program
The Fresh Foods and Healthy Lifestyle Program is a program funded in part by Move on up Mississippi and Lafayette Oxford Foundation for Tomorrow (LOFT) that educates DOHTM clients on the benefits of exercise and healthy eating. The program teaches how to purchase and prepare quality food on a budget. The goal is to create a habit of exercise and healthy eating so, when they leave the program, they have skills, knowledge and confidence to shop for fresh vegetables and fruits, serve quality food, incorporate exercise in their daily routine and promote lifelong health by addressing dietary issues.
DOHTM clients receive:
- Fresh produce provided to clients weekly from OXCM
- Educational events on how to eat healthy on a budget
- Meal prep tips and activities
- Exercise events
“The Healthy Foods Program has not only changed the way that I eat, it has changed the way I think. I now know healthy foods can be affordable and I can’t afford not to eat, buy and live healthy!”
–Former Doors of Hope client
STEP 2
STEP 2 is a monthly meeting available to current and previous clients that have graduated from the program. This meeting is a chance for our clients to build community while also receiving support from us and one another. Each meeting we have an educational topic and provide them with dinner often donated by a local restaurant. This is an opportunity for our graduates to maintain their connection to Doors of Hope and receive continuing support, while also offering support and encouragement to our current clients.
